We’re excited to introduce this month’s Mom of the Month, Sara — mom of three boys and co-founder of Honey B Aesthetics in downtown Lee’s Summit. Alongside her husband Brian, Sara helped build Honey B from the ground up into a business focused not just on aesthetics, but on confidence, relationships, and community. With a background in teaching and a passion for connecting with people, Sara plays a huge role in creating the welcoming environment Honey B is known for today.

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I’m Sara, born and raised here in the Kansas City area. My husband Brian and I met our freshman year at Graceland University in Lamoni, IA and have been inseparable ever since. We’ll be celebrating 20 years of marriage this April. Fun fact: we went to rival high schools, Blue Springs and Blue Springs South.
We have three boys—Parker (16), Everett (12), and Dawson (8) who keep our lives full with sports, school, and all the fun chaos that comes with raising boys. Most of our time outside of work is spent cheering them on and being together as a family.
We’re also big Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fans and love going to games whenever we can. Traveling is another big part of our life. We’ve made memories everywhere from Grand Cayman and Hawaii to Sanibel Island, cruises, and most recently London and Paris.
At home, we have a full house with three adorable dogs-Heidi, Honey, and Huck. We also have one very silly cat named Luigi.
Before this chapter, I was a teacher, which really shaped my love for connection, education, and building relationships. Something that still shows up in everything I do today.
What inspired you to start your business?
Honey B Aesthetics really started as a dream my husband Brian had, and quickly became something we built side by side. He immersed himself in the clinical side as a CRNA, and I naturally stepped into creating the brand, the experience, and the heart behind it.
With my background in teaching, I’ve always been drawn to connection, education, and helping people feel confident. As we began building, I realized how much I loved creating an environment where people feel comfortable, supported, and truly cared for.
What inspired us most was the idea of doing things differently. Building something of our own that felt personal, welcoming, and rooted in relationships.
What does a typical day look like for you as a mom and business owner?
No two days look exactly the same, but they all start and end with my family. Mornings are usually a mix of getting the boys ready for school and coordinating everyone’s schedules.
Brian is at the Hive two afternoons a week, and on those days I’m right alongside him assisting with appointments. The rest of the week, you can usually find me buzzing in and out-running errands, supporting our team, and handling the day-to-day behind the scenes. That can look like operations, social media and marketing, client communication, meetings, planning events, and launching new services.
Evenings are all about the boys, their sports, activities, and just being together as a family. It’s a full schedule, but I’ve learned to embrace the rhythm of it and be present wherever I am.
What has been the most rewarding part of your business?
The most rewarding part has been watching something we built from the ground up grow into what it is today. Not just as a business, but as a team and a community.
The impact on our clients has been equally meaningful. Watching their confidence grow and knowing we’ve played a small role in that transformation is truly the best. It’s just as special to see our team thrive, grow in their own confidence, and be part of something we’ve built together.
It’s never just been about the services. It’s about the relationships, the trust, and the environment we’ve created.

What challenges have you faced balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, and how do you handle them?
Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship is definitely a constant juggle. There are seasons where one needs more of you than the other, and learning to navigate that without guilt has been one of the biggest challenges.
I’ve had to let go of the idea of perfect balance and instead focus on being fully present wherever I am. When I’m at home, I’m with my family. When I’m at the Hive, I’m focused on the business.
Having a strong support system, especially with Brian, has made all the difference. We truly do this together, and that partnership allows me to show up in both roles in a way that feels sustainable. I’m also incredibly grateful for a team I trust to take care of things when we’re away in the same way we would. That level of trust is invaluable.
What advice would you give to other moms thinking about starting their own business?
Don’t wait until everything feels perfectly planned out. Just start. You’ll figure so much out along the way.
Also, build something that aligns with your life, not something that constantly pulls you away from it. There will always be challenges, but if it’s something you’re passionate about, it’s worth it.
And don’t be afraid to ask for help or lean on people around you. You don’t have to do it all alone.
How do you and your family like to spend time together when you're not working?
Most of our time together is spent cheering on our boys. You’ll usually find us at a field, gym, or school event. We genuinely love being part of everything they’re involved in.
When we’re at home, we love keeping things simple. Playing cards and board games, watching movies, and just spending quality time together. We also enjoy finding new adventure spots and yummy restaurants around the area.
We love being outdoors too. Fishing, swimming, boating, and going on walks. Anything that gets us outside and together. A lot of those moments are shared with friends and family, which makes them even more fun and meaningful.
