Will my child have a bus route this year?
One of the most searched questions every August: "does my kid qualify for the bus?" Bus eligibility across our districts is typically based on how far you live from your assigned campus, so it varies by neighborhood, even within the same town. Most districts open their bus route finder tools in early August, so keep an eye on your district's transportation page for your child's stop and pickup time. Pro mom tip: bus routes can shift year to year as neighborhoods grow, so don't assume last year's stop is still active. Double check before day one!
How do I apply for free or reduced school meals?
With grocery bills stretching every family's budget, don't skip this one, mama. Families across our districts can apply for free or reduced price meals through their district's food service or child nutrition department, and many let you apply online before the first day. Even if you didn't qualify last year, it is worth reapplying since eligibility is based on current household income and size. Applications typically open in early August, right alongside registration, so it is an easy one to knock out at the same time.

🛍️ Missouri Tax Free Weekend
Missouri's tax free weekend is Aug. 7-9, 2026. Missouri's list is one of the broadest around, clothing, school supplies, computers, and calculators are all included. That means you can knock out laptops and graphing calculators along with the usual backpacks and notebooks, all without paying sales tax.
A few things to know before you shop:
- Clothing items under $100 qualify
- School supplies under $50 per purchase qualify
- Computers and computer peripherals under $1,500 qualify
- Graphing calculators under $150 qualify
- Some cities and counties opt out of participating, so double check with your specific store or city if you are not sure
